Our school requires us to submit an absence note when our child does not attend school. We must send in a note within three days of our child’s return. Failure to follow this policy, results in an unexcused absence.

Absence Note for School

We offer four different absence notes that are ideal for a parent to send to school. If you would like to obtain a PDF, just click on the desire note.

Excused Absence

In order to learn at school, a student needs to be at school. Our school provides a list of adequate reasons for missing school which are as follows:

  • Illness of student,
If your child has any of the following symptoms do not send them to school:
  • Diarrhea,
  • Earache,
  • Fever,
  • Head Lice,
  • Inflamed eye,
  • Upset stomach,
  • Vomiting
  • Severe headache,
  • Skin infection or rash,
  • Sore throat,
  • Swollen glands,
  • Thick nasal discharge, and
  • Persistent cough.

If you are uncertain as to whether or not to send your child to school, I would recommend keeping her or him at home. The last thing you want is for your child to throw up either on another child or in front of her peers.

  • Death in immediate family,
  • Court summons,
  • Religious holiday,
  • State emergency,
  • Permission from the principal, e.g., to visit a college campus, and
  • Lack of authorized transportation, e.g., the school bus did not come.

Family travel not considered an excused absence, except in unusual circumstances and it must be approved by the principal. When my children were younger we would take advantage of 3-day weekends and take mini vacations but as they get older it is more difficult to miss school days and stay current with their studies.
