Mexican MMA fighter Maria Jose Favela has beaten cancer after being diagnosed with it just months prior. She requested funds for her cancer treatment just months ago because she couldn’t afford it. There was also a GoFundMe started by fellow fighter Cynthia Calvillo to support Favela in her treatment against cancer.

Favela took to X, where she expressed her happiness about her health. She said, “I have to tell you that I just finished my appointment with the hematologist and the result is good. There is no more metabolic activity so I don’t have cancer.” Favela was diagnosed with lymphoma, which is a potent form of cancer that afflicts the lymphatic nodes.

She went on to mention that even though the cancer is gone, she still has six more rounds of chemotherapy left. Favela has to take precautions in order for the cancer to be properly treated. The remaining chemotherapy sessions will be critical in strengthening her fight against the disease. UFC veteran Elias Theodorou also recently passed away due to cancer.

UFC fighters Sean Strickland and Chris Curtis have also come forward to support Jose Favela in her battle against cancer. Favela is a promising fighter with a record of four wins and two losses in her professional MMA career. She fights in the Invicta Fighting Championship and won her last fight before being diagnosed. Fans will look forward to seeing Favela back in the ring soon.
