On Monday, The Idaho Public Utilities Commission announced that it's chosen Idaho's second area code -- 986 to be launched in 2017.
The new area code will be issued only to new telephone numbers beginning in 2017. Idaho is one of the few states with only one code.
Even if you're not getting a 986 number, you'll still be affected. The Utilities Commission says all customers in Idaho will be required to dial 10 digits beginning in late 2017 -- area code, prefix, plus four-digit number).
