Luka Doncic is fresh off arguably the most disappointing season of his NBA career.

Despite coming into last year as the favorite to claim the regular season MVP award following the Dallas Mavericks’ impressive march to the 2022 Western Conference Finals, he floundered on every level.

Not only did Dallas fail to match their postseason mark from 2022 in 2023, but they wound up missing the playoffs altogether.

Not even the acquisition of Kyrie Irving could save them.

Doncic was very honest and blunt in the aftermath regarding where things went wrong for his squad.

Fortunately for the Mavs, the 24-year-old seems intent on rectifying things next season. And Doncic is starting by getting into better shape.

This week, photos emerged of him looking tremendously skinny.

Understandably, NBA fans had a lot of reactions to the pictures.

They immediately flocked to social media to weigh in with their thoughts.

A lot of issues plagued Dallas this past season.

The lack of chemistry between Doncic and Irving, on both sides of the ball, wasn’t great. Both players admitted as much.

Head coach Jason Kidd’s weird vendetta against Christian Wood also didn’t do much to evoke locker room harmony. There’s a reason three teams are foaming at the mouth over the prospect of stealing Wood away. Everyone believes the Mavs misused him.

But at the end of the day, all that stuff notwithstanding, the Mavericks will only go as far as Doncic takes them.

The fact that he is putting in so much work, this early in the offseason, is a great sign for them.

What Doncic be able to get the Mavs back on track in 2023-24? Time will tell.
